Workshop Description Number of Participants

14-15 July 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Taxonomy of Ascomycetes

Andrew Miller and Martina Reblova

Taxonomy of major Ascomycete lineages, education and field work. 25 $100 (including box lunch, supplies, refreshments and field
15 July 8 AM to 5 PM Bacterial Fungal Interactions

Gregory Bonito and Jessie Uehling

Emerging concepts and research approaches in bacterial fungal interactions. 50 $50 (lunch and materials)
15 July 8:00 AM -5:00 PM

Xylaria working group

Bitty A Roy and Roo Vandegrift

This workshop/symposium is intended for all those interested in the genus Xylaria and associated paraphyletic genera (e.g., Nemania, Kretzschmaria, Rosellinia). Our hope is by bringing together the experts in the field into a working group that we can move the systematics and ecology forward more rapidly.
30 $50 (lunch and materials)
16 July 8 AM to 5 PM Assessing the Global Conservation Status of Fungi

Anders Dahlberg and Giuliana Furci

A Practical Workshop within the Global Fungal Red Listing Initiative. 30 $50 (lunch and materials)
16 July 1 PM to 5:00PM

Coordinated fungal development and secondary metabolism

Gerhard Braus

Development and secondary metabolism are often linked in fungi. The molecular mechanism for this link is only partly understood and might be key to the identification of novel secondary metabolites and their putative biological activity. 30 $20 (refreshments and materials)
19 July 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Digital illustration of fungi for scientific publication

Davi Augusto Carneiro de Almeid

The use of computer hardware and software dramatically reduce the time and difficulty of drawings without loss of quality, which can stimulate mycologists to use drawings for publication. In this workshop I will present a method of illustrating fungi described by Barber & Keane (2007), as well as a modification of this method proposed by Almeida & Gusmão (2015). Also, we will teach how to use ImageJ to make plates of photos easily and quickly. 30 $20 (lunch and materials)
19 July 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Forest Pathology and
Tree Crop Field Trip and Workshop

D. Jean Lodge and
Meike Piepenbring

We intend to show in the field forest tree pathogens and approximately 10 different specimens of representative tropical plant parasitic microfungi in the laboratory. 25 $60 (including box lunch, supplies, field trip)
19 July 1PM to 5 PM

Beyond the lab bench:
how to engage in
effective online science

Christopher Smyth and
Terry Torres-Cruz

This workshop aims to provide participants with the information necessary to utilize these online platforms to benefit their scientific career through effective networking and public outreach. 30 $20 (refreshments and materials)
